Making our House a Home: Continuing Projects

During our first week in the schools, Ma’s brother, David, helped us to install a door handle and lock on our bedroom door, along with filling in the fist-sized hole. Because the door didn’t exactly fit the frame, Joe got to spend part of the day whittling and sanding the door to the desired size. The whole experience was a comedy sitcom with David running back and forth between the neighboring houses looking for tools, Joe sweating profusely while running a small piece of sandpaper over the door, both of them grunting and hammering the door into place then grunting and struggling to take the door down again in order to repeat the whole process until it fit. Don’t worry, Kelli was busy painting (and laughing) while the men were playing with the door. We finally began to breathe a little easier once we had doors and locks that actually worked.

Because we liked our bedroom so much, we decided to paint the dining room blue as well. However, after one coat, we realized that we needed more blue paint. After another walk to Cash Build, we were back on track. What we didn’t realize until much later was that although the same exact brand and same exact color, the two blues dried differently. It’s hardly noticeable in the dining room, but glaringly obvious in the bedroom where Kelli decided to ‘clean-up’ a few spots. We are now trying to come up with ideas on how to cover up the light blue splotches around our bedroom.
