The Journey of a Lifetime: 3 Years in the Making

The journey of a lifetime began with a dream, a long application, an interview in Seattle, excitement, acceptance, plans for two years in Asia, delays, ear surgery, back surgery, more delays, recovery, reflection, teaching in Baltimore, working in Southern California, waiting, acceptance again, placement in South Africa, and goodbyes followed by an hour train ride to Philadelphia where we had two days of staging, a three hour bus ride to NYC, a 17 hour flight to Johannesburg, a three hour bus ride to Bundu, and finally THE FIRST STEPS INTO THE DUSTY AIR, ACCOMPANIED BY SOUNDS OF JUBILEE FROM OUR WELCOME PARTY, WITH THE COMPANY OF 80 STRANGERS FROM AMERICA ALL SHARING SIMILAR HOPES, DREAMS AND APPREHENTIONS ABOUT WHAT LIES AHEAD . . . .
